In private, when he finally lets down his puffed-up guard, Jenkins is something else altogether: an unabashed perfectionist who obsesses over each word of every song; a believer in music’s power to soothe, heal and bring order to chaos; and a loner at heart who surrounds himself with creative misfits. “A lot of people say I wouldn’t have a down day, but you look at the music and there’s real melancholy.
