Zwan Even Less Of A Democracy Than Smashing Pumpkins

Sean Richardson of the Boston Phoenix profiled the return of frontman Billy Corgan with , and their new release ‘Mary Star of the Sea’. Richardson writes, “Corgan is famous for being a control freak, but given Zwan’s talent pool, it’s still a surprise to find that this band appears to be even less of a democracy than Smashing Pumpkins. On past albums, Corgan’s collaborated with star producers like Flood and Butch Vig. This time, it’s just Corgan and long-time Pumpkins engineer Bjorn Thorsrud. Corgan’s new bandmates figure into the songwriting credits on just four of the album’s 14 tracks. All of which makes it clear that while Corgan was on his short hiatus from rock, he didn’t change his creative approach.” The fll story at Bostonphoenix.com has since been removed.
