Edna Gundersen of USA Today took part in an online chat with the newspaper’s readers on Tuesday (April 13) and was asked what Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain’s reaction to the current rock music scene would be if he were still alive today. “Kurt was a fascinating figure, cynical and dismissive of the music business yet determined to succeed and wily about achieving stardom,” she explained. “He left behind a small but potent body of work that makes it impossible to project where he might have roamed artistically. If he were alive today, I’m not sure he’d still be making music in the vein of ‘Nevermind’ or ‘In Utero’. But I’m certain he would have found teen pop, nu-metal and bling-bling rap a rich source for his ridicule and disgust.”
