Weezer, Strokes, Jimmy Eat World Jump Out Of The Pack
Steven Knopper of the Miami Herald profiled the rise of old-fashioned rock bands with catchy melodies and loud guitars. Talking about bands such as Weezer and newcomers The Strokes, and Jimmy Eat World, Jim O’Connell, program director for the West Palm Beach modern-rock station WPBZ-FM said, “Musical tastes are changing again — some of the harder bands are starting to take their toll, and listeners are looking at other options. It’s not an overnight thing. It’ll take some time. The degree to which they jumped out of the pack took some people by surprise.”
