The Fray celebrated their new album release ‘Scars & Stories’ with a interview and performance for Walmart Soundcheck. The Colorado band’s live set included ‘You Found Me’ and ‘Heartbeat’.
The group talked about the album recording process, taking time off between albums, how they compose music, the album being a reflection of their experiences, the subject matter in ‘Scars & Stories’, working with producer Brendan O’Brien on the project, connecting with their fans on Twitter and in person, and more.
“I used to get really stressed out when people didn’t know what the songs were about,” singer Isaac Slade explained. “I would explain the song for 10 minutes before we’d play it, and guys were falling asleep on stage, and then I realized the way I listen to music is projecting my own story to whatever song connects with me. We wrote ‘How To Save A Life’ about some really dark, heavy intervention kind of stuff, and I had this couple come up to me and tell me it was their first dance song at a wedding, and wanted to tell them it was not about that, but it clicked that we’ve got to let these songs go once we put them out there.”
