The Frames’ Doyle On Edging U2 For Meteor Award

The Frames bassist Joseph Doyle spoke with Time Off magazine about the band’s Meteor Award for Best Irish Band, a nod that had been given mostly to over the years. “It was nice because it was the people’s vote rather than coming from the industry,” Doyle explained. “You have to question those industry-related awards. So it was really nice for the people that have supported us from the start. It’s nice for your family and friends. As for the whole U2 thing; I don’t really even see them as an Irish band anymore, they’re much more global. They’re just this huge, monstrous band, so you can’t really compete with them. Not that we’d even want to because being competitive doesn’t interest us at all.”
