The Darkness guitarist Dan Hawkins spoke with Stuart Berman of the Toronto Eye and addressed talk that many don’t take the pop-metal act seriously. “People in Britain are so concerned with being cool and following trends,” says Dan, “and if you’re different and haven’t been given permission by the London fashionistas, it’s really hard to get anywhere.” But they’ve been better received in America. “When we were having a hard time getting taken seriously in Britain, we did shows at South by Southwest and in LA and were well received,” says Dan. “People don’t give a sh** there. This is what I’ve always wanted to do: conquer America.”
