Unwritten Law Ready ‘Swan’ For March 29th Release

Unwritten Law

Unwritten Law are set to return with ‘Swan’, their sixth studio album, due out March 29th on Breaksilence Recordings / Suburban Noize Records. The album’s first single is ‘Starships and Apocalypse’.

“It took a long time to write this record because we were creating something real in a time when fake, bullshit, phony music rules the airwaves,” vocalist Scott Russo said about ‘Swan’. “For this album we had to make sure that every song was a great song and there was zero filler.”

“There was a lot of interpersonal turmoil going on with the band itself and in our personal lives during the making of this album,” guitarist Steve Morris added. “We had all but completely succumbed to the extreme pitfalls of being a band. We had no money left, we owed money to everyone, everyone in the industry hated us, and we were barely hanging on by a thread.”

Label Hopping Unwritten Law Figure Out Best Of Solution

Unwritten Law singer Scott Russo spoke with Australia’s Beat magazine about the unusual measures the band went through to record their best of album. “Well, the band put out six records, and each record has been put out on a different label,” Russo explained. “Because we’ve been on so many labels, there was no way to contractually get them to agree to let us release these songs. So instead of fighting with people, trying to get the masters from them, we found loopholes where we could re-record the songs. This way it makes it fresh for us, and makes it fresh for our fans. It’s a lot cooler to us to do it this way, and is fun. We get to go back and rehash these songs and rerecord them like we play them live. It all came together organically, but was inspired by legal issues with the record companies.”

Fans Accept Unwritten Law Minus Brewer

Unwritten Law vocalist Scott Russo spoke with Australia’s Time Off magazine about the band’s move to remove long-time guitarist Rob Brewer after tension within the band became too much to bear. “The feedback we’re getting from the fanbase is that the shows are a lot more streamlined and the energy is more positive onstage,” Russo said. “I’d imagine it’s just the chemistry in between the players onstage, whereas before we had some kind of tension between members. It wasn’t physical and we didn’t state it verbally but you can still feel it. Fans in the US have really received it well; they like the band a lot better.”
