Noodles: Kids Of Today Are More Cool With Who They Are

The Offspring band

Beat magazine spoke with The Offspring guitarist Kevin ‘Noodles’ Wasserman to get the punk rock veteran’s thoughts on today’s youth. “I know a lot of kids and I think they’re way better off than any of my generation was,” he tells James Ridley. “I think there are a lot of different pressures they’re facing, but they’re smarter and seem to be more cool with who they are. It was different when I was growing up; you had to fit in. There was so much emphasis on not stepping out of line. You know, suburbia, Ronald Reagan-era, you had to conform. I just couldn’t do that, I couldn’t fit in. Now, I look in my neighborhood – there’s the kid with the ’70s fro, the goth kid, the kid with the shaved head and clean cut, preppy looking jock. And they’re all hanging out together; shooting paintballs at each other or skating or whatever. And it’s cool. I’m sure there’s still clicks and stuff, but it’s not so much of war anymore.”

Dexter Holland Discusses Status Of The Offspring’s Eighth Album

The Offspring

The Offspring frontman Dexter Holland spoke with Time Off magazine about the band’s forthcoming eighth album, the first release from the veteran band since 2003’s ‘Splinter’. “Oh wow, I haven’t counted for a while, is that right, eight?” Holland laughed. “That’s almost enough records for roman numerals. But yeah, we’re getting there, we demoed, like, 25 songs, we’ve tracked 14 – we’ll probably weed a couple of those out. I just need to finish up some lyrics; the other guys have done their parts, and now I just have to finish up on the vocals. I think it’s the nature of people and bands that they always like your early stuff – so you try to do the best of capturing the essence of what you are and what you had back then, and also try to make yourself happy, not just repeating yourself.” The article at timeoff.com.au has since been removed.
