Shinedown Are Fearless When Making Records

Shinedown perform on Walmart Soundcheck

Shinedown made an appearance on Walmart Soundcheck, where the Jacksonville Florida rock band performed a live set that included ‘Bully’, ‘Unity’, ‘Amarylis’, ‘Enemies’, ‘Sound of Madness’ and ‘Second Chance’. All but ‘Sound of Madness’ are off the group’s fourth studio album ‘Amaryllis’, released on March on Atlantic Records.

During an interview with band members Brent Smith, Zach Myers, Eric Bass and Barry Kerch, they talked about story behind the album title and how it’s about rising above, being fearless when it comes to making records, not approaching new music by looking back at their previous albums, the message behind the songs ‘Bully’ and ‘Unity’, seeing each other more than their own families, the maturation of the group’s songwriting on ‘Amaryllis’, never saying no to autograph requests and more.

“We’re quite fearless when it comes to making records,” Smith explained. “We don’t ever believe in a top, because we’re always trying to outdo what we’ve already done. We’re never really satisfied, I can guarantee you that we never will be. That’s a good thing, because it keeps us motivated. It pushes us. It allows us not to be desensitized to any situation or any subject that we’re talking about or what it is we’re trying to convey to the world. We’re definitely four gentlemen that have something to say.”

Shinedown Guitarist Says ‘Amaryllis’ Tops ‘The Sound Of Madness’

Shinedown stage

Though Shinedown’s 2008 album ‘The Sound Of Madness’ was a smash with six hit singles, Zach Myers tells Corpus Christi Caller that the Jacksonville Florida rock band’s fourth studio album ‘Amaryllis’ is a superior effort. “I think we did write a better record than ‘Madness,'” the guitarist asid. “I think ‘Madness’ is a great record for what it is. I think it’s the best possible picture taken of who we were at that time. But I also think that in 2012, this is the best picture of us at this time.”

‘Amaryllis’ was released March 27th on Atlantic Records.

“I’ve always seen Shinedown as its own entity,” says Shinedown frontman Brent Smith, “this living thing that’s been growing and developing and evolving over the past 10 years. During the recording, the vision of what Shinedown is and where it’s going became completely clear. ‘Amaryllis’ is the manifestation of that vision, the centerpiece of what Shinedown is. It reflects on everything we’ve done and where we’re heading. It’s a message of empowerment, perseverance, and inspiration that I think speaks to fans that have been with us since the beginning as well as those who are just learning about who we are and what we’re about.
