Roth Says Hagar Came Up A Bit Short On ‘Sans Halen’ Tour

Mike Ross of the Edmonton Sun spoke with David Lee Roth who talked about his ‘Sans Halen’ tour last summer with fellow former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar. “I think Sam came out to prove something and maybe came up a little bit short,” Roth says in regards to the contentious tour. “I don’t think of Sam really as a colleague. As the ‘Not 4 Sale’ album title suggests, Sammy Hagar has reached a place in his life where he can do what he wants, when he wants, without having to worry about his next paycheck. “It’s a wonderful place to be in your life,” he tells Geneen Pipher of CNN. “I’m not money-driven. I’m not success-driven. I’m not thinking, ‘Oh if I do this I’ll make a bunch of money or if I do that my record will sell a whole bunch.’ I’m just driven by creativity and fun and doing what my band and I do best, and that’s playing — we love playing.” Read more.

Sammy Hagar Talks David Lee Roth And Axl Rose

Howard Stern got back from vacation today and talked with Sammy Hagar, who just wrapped up his tour with fellow former Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth. Howard also asked Sammy about the MTV Video Music Awards since he was there. The two of them spent a few minutes talking about Axl Rose and what happened to him. Sammy pointed out how Axl was winded within 30 seconds of getting on stage. He said if Axl had to do a 2 hour show he would have been in trouble. He also talked about Dave, and Sammy admitted the two get along fine now that they aren’t working together anymore.

Sammy Hagar Falls Ill & Cancels Shows With Roth

Associated Press reports Sammy Hagar was ill and his concerts this weekend with fellow ex Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth in upstate New York have been canceled or postponed, officials said. “He’s had some problems with his health and I believe it was his voice that was affected and he just couldn’t go today in Darien Lake and tomorrow here,” New York State Fair spokesman Joe LaGuardia said Saturday night.

Hagar Puts On Better Show In Hartford

While he says the tour is going great, his relationship with Dave hasn’t. “Every time I open – are you kidding me? – I go out there with bad intentions,” Hagar says with a laugh. “I just want to make those people, when I walk off the stage after my hour and a half, to be going, `This show’s over.’ Then Dave’s gotta go out and go to work, and vice versa.”

Sammy & Dave To Co-Present VMA

The New York Post reports former Van Halen frontmen David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar have agreed to co-present an award at at the MTV Music Awards on August 29th, even though Hagar has been trashing Roth in the media, most notably the Post.
