Auf Der Maur Recommends Failure
Melissa Auf Der Maur recommended that Blender readers take a listen to Failure's 'Sgt. Politeness'. The singer said, "This comes off 'Fantastic Planet', an album taht came out in 1996. It's got a heavy, unique riff that's also very melodic. Anyone who likes heavy mid-'90s alt-rock would like this; it's just a glossier approach to that type of music. Musicians love these guys, but they're one of those bands that fell by the wayside before they ever really made it."

Why Auf Der Maur Went Solo
After stints with Hole and The Smashing Pumpkins, why did Melissa Auf Der Maur dive in to her first solo album? "Because it was my first album, I didn't want any – y'know, that's why I didn't want a record company or manager - I didn't want anybody suggesting, pushing, molding," she said. "Just let me be myself. Nobody tell me what to do. And that's kind of what I wanted to do to guarantee that the foundation of my solo career would be completely honest and pure.”
