Jesse Quin Becomes Permanent Member Of Keane

Keane add Jesse Quin for good

Keane have announced on their official web site that Jesse Quin is joining the band full time. Quin originally joined Tom Chaplin, Tim Rice-Oxley and Richard Hughes in 2008, providing bass, percussion, guitar, synths and backing vocals. The English rock group write at keanemusic.com:

Hi everyone. We’re excited to tell you that after more than three years as our bass player and friend, Jesse Quin is joining Keane for good.

Jesse has been making music with us since our War Child shows back in 2007, and through the making of Perfect Symmetry and the Night Train E.P. He’s an amazing musician, and these days we can’t imagine life in Keane without him.

We know many of you have taken him to your hearts as we have toured the world over the last three years, so the only difference will be the chance to hear what he has to say in interviews and see him in photos like this one.

The photo was taken by Bryan Adams for the 2011 Comic Relief campaign and we are wearing the fabulous Vivienne Westwood-designed official t-shirts that will be on sale in TK Maxx. Red Nose Day 2011 is on February 18th and all profits from the sale of these T-shirts will go towards helping people living unimaginably tough lives across the UK and Africa.

Lots of love,

Tim, Tom, Richard and Jesse.

Keane’s “Two Pasty English Guys” Take On Country With Mt. Desolation

Mt. Desolation

The Independent spoke with Keane’s Tim Rice-Oxley, asking about the new country side project called Mt. Desolation he and Jesse Quin are now busy with. “It was after a Keane show and we had a night out, as you do,” the pianist explained. “We were all in Toner’s – that’s just down from Ballsbridge, isn’t it? At about three in the morning we were talking about country music and decided it was a good idea for two pasty English guys to have a crack at the most American music genre there is.” Read more.

Keane Get Earthy With Forest Tour

Keane 'Night Train'

Consequence of Sound spoke with Tom Chaplin of Keane in a Q&A, asking the singer about the band’s recently completed tour of venues in the forest in the UK and how the idea came about. Tom responded:

It was born out of not wanting to overkill here in the UK. We did a big arena tour last year. Partly ’cause of the way we made this record and partly because of where we are at the moment, we couldn’t justify doing another big, bombastic arena tour. We wanted to do something that was a bit more earthy and different. We heard about this circuit of forest tours in the UK and a couple of bands had done it before. It’s a magical setting for playing music and for people to hang out, get drunk, and have a good time. We just thought it fit in perfectly with what Keane does as a band. I really think it’ll be a beautiful setting for listening to music.
