ITN chatted about the World Cup with Tom Gray from Gomez backstage at Hard Rock Calling. “I had a very heavy argument with an Argentinian taxi driver in Brighton this morning, who bet me that if England win, he’ll give me every taxi journey forever for free in his taxicab, so obviously I’ve got to hope that we win now,” Tom explained. “I didn’t even offer anything in return, he was so convinced that England are gonna lose.” Since that interview, the cabbie was proven correct, as England lost to Germany on Sunday 4-1. Ben Ottewell and and Olly Peacock from Gomez sat in the Absolute Radio campervan for a backstage chat with Ben Jones ahead of their performance at Hard Rock Calling 2010. The boys talked about the World Cup, traveling home on the tube, and impressions of John Lennon. Ben talked about Chris Eccleston trying to take on the role of The Beatles legend on ‘Lennon Naked’ the other night. “To be honest I’m not from Liverpool but I know a lot of people who are, and I wasn’t that convinced,” he explained. “I think he’s agreat actor but I thought he looked too old for start. And his accent was a bit like that all the time, he was really angry all the time, just was like very monosyllabic scouse all the time… It’s good, it’s worth watching.” Watch the interview via YouTube below.
Gomez paid Absolute Radio in London a visit to play a Zoo Session, which included ‘Airstream Driver’ their most recent single from their new album ‘A New Tide’, and the classic ‘Whippin’ Picadilly.’ Watch both performances below.
