Phil Collen On Def Leppard’s Influence

Def Leppard

Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen spke with Ultimate Classic Rock about the influence the band has had on other artists. “With Def Leppard, I definitely heard the vocal thing and I’d hear Boyz II Men, they had some stuff that I’d go, ‘Wow that’s exactly the same as us – they’ve copied the stacking’, actually where you put the vocals,” Collen explained. “And you know, even that wasn’t a new thing, because a lot of bands would do that in the ’50s and ’60s, but we just took it to a different level with the amount of vocals you put in there. So, it was mainly that and guitar licks, my guitar, that signature kind of muted guitar thing that’s a melodic rhythmic thing.”

Joe Elliott: Def Leppard Not Splitting

Def Leppard

Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott is shooting down speculation that the veteran rock group are breaking up after they recently announced the cancellation of 23 North American tour dates. Elliott said the move was made so he could tend to his wife Kristine, who was expecting their first child. “There wasn’t any mystery to it really,” Joe explained to TheStar.co.uk. “My wife was pregnant and needed a bit of attention from me, which she wasn’t getting. There was a lot of things in our private lives that needed attending to. We’re not splitting. Not at all. We often joke, what else would we do? You just can’t imagine doing anything else.”
