Anberlin vocalist Stephen Christian spoke with Time Off magazine about the band’s move to depart their indie label Tooth & Nail in favor of Universal Republic. “We felt like we had reached a glass ceiling,” Christian explained. “We had reached the highest that we were ever going to go, being on Tooth and Nail. They don’t push radio or shoot videos or push international touring; they just try to build the fan base in the States because that’s where their money comes from, from selling records and touring in the US. On top of that, EMI bought Tooth and Nail so the whole family that we knew and loved and were so close to were separated. We tried to make it work with them but we didn’t feel the passion was there anymore.”

Anberlin checked in with fans on their MySpace blog on Saturday (April 19) with the following message from vocalist Stephen Christian:
Hey guys, Stephen wrote a description on the album title, check it out below:
we will all come to the point in our life where we have to admit that we
feel defeated, that something has conquered us.
we must change, not because we want to, but because we desperately
have to. we can not take life in its current suffocating state, even to
admit such desperation shows that we are feeling deserted,
wandering the barren desert,
a shell of our former selves.
it is only up from here, it is impossible to sink any lower into ourselves
or our circumstances.
but we can be salvaged, a deliverance.
no vice can stand, no fix can take.
the thorn in the side can be removed,
but you have to be willing to admit and surrender.
surrender your habits,
and your future.
this is your new surrender.
the new surrender.
