Beat.com.au spoke with System of a Down bassist Shavo about the band’s huge success and hometown following in Los Angeles where the guys have sold out their stop at the Forum. Shavo said, “I used to see KISS there and it’s unbelievable to me. We’ve gone from playing to 500 people at the Roxy to the Forum which 16, 000. I used to go watch the Lakers there, you know, with Kareem Abdul Jabaar and Magic and Cooper. My dad used to take me when I was a kid and now we’re playing the same place. I’ve been a music fan since I was a little kid with all the posters on my walls. Now I go to a place and Rob Halford will come up and say ‘Hey Shavo, what’s up?’ It’s the same with Ozzy and Gene Simmons and Slayer. We’re huge Slayer fans and yet tonight my girlfriend and I are going to their record release party at a cemetery in Hollywood. Things like that are just dream-like for me. Five years ago, I was like ‘Oh my God, look who it is?'”
