Recently in Japan, Sum 41 was headlining arenas packed with fans so loyal that band members have to check into their hotel under assumed names. “They’re crazy for western music over here,” frontman Deryck Whibley told Mike Ross of the Edmonton Sun. “The fans, they have a lot of money, so they fly to every single show. They’ll be at the airport right when you land and they’ll ask for autographs and pictures, and then you’ll get in your car and go to your hotel, but they’re already at the hotel, asking for more autographs and pictures. Then you leave to go to the show, but they’ll already be there. It’s like they’re little ninjas or something. They always beat you. They’ll even sleep in the lobby.”
