Kelly Jones and Richard Jones of Stereophonics talked to Ben Jones backstage at the V Festival 2010 over the weekend. The pair talked about how their summer tour has been so far, touring with Pearl Jam, and revealed that there will be a big Stereophonics announcement very soon. During the interview, the Welsh rock band also revealed that they’ve spent a lot more time on the tourbus recently, learning great things about each other along the way. Rich says he’s started shooting rabbits and Kelly has entered the 21st century by getting an iPhone.
As for how they’ve dealt with the death of Stuart Cable and their memories of their former drummer, Kelly said, “Well, it never goes away really. We walk on stage and Stuart’s always with us and always has been. We’ve talked quite a lot for the last 5-6 years, so anyway we were talking right up to the point when he passed and we were gonna meet that weekend. I know we’ve kept in touch with his family a lot, and his girlfriend, and I think it’s helped them speaking to us, because we obviously were as close to him as they are really. It’s been strange looking out in the gigs and sometimes people having ‘RIP Stuart’ and stuff like that. That was a bit weird to get used to at first, but I think it hit all of us about 2 to 3 weeks after actually, when we were in the middle of it all, you’re just dealing with it, but when you go back out on the road and you’re playing those songs again. Even last week, when someone was playing ‘When You Go You Gotta Come Back’ and just listening to him playing drums it kind of comes back again. I don’t think it’ll ever go either.”
