Despite being a critics’ favorite for nearly all of their seven year stint, Fountains of Wayne never anticipated landing a Top 15 single with ‘Stacy’s Mom’. “If anything, we expected that nobody would care that we were putting out a record,” guitarist and songwriter Adam Schlesinger told Mike Prevatt of Las Vegas Weekly. “We’ve been around for a long time, we disappeared for four years, we never particularly sold a lot of records, so there was no reason to expect anything.
