Jonathan Bunce of the Toronto Eye spoke with Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore about the group’s latest album ‘Murray Street’. Moore said, “It is more focused on classic pop structures, which we had started exploring early on. But when we first started, we didn’t know how to play, we weren’t really doing any sort of picking songs, more just thrashy noise songs. It’s funny, ‘cuz after so much playing, now we do know how to play. We wanted to do a straight-up, cool rock ‘n’ roll record, especially ‘cuz the previous two [1998’s A Thousand Leaves, 2000’s NYC Ghosts & Flowers] had stretched-out three-guitar jams that would cross over into SYR territory.”
