Scott Ian Considers Renaming Band

Scott Ian talked to The Washington Post’s David Segal about the irony of his band name following the anthrax scare in Florida. The lead singer admits, “This isn’t the kind of exposure we want or need. It’s as though it’s 1937 and I’m a bandleader named Freddie Hitler. Maybe we should change the name now. A friend suggested ‘Basket of Puppies.'”

Ian says the band’s website,, has seen a huge jump in traffic but adds, “It’s kind of weird because anytime the word is on the news, anytime I hear it on television, I hope maybe they’re talking about the band.”

Ian admits lately he’s been a victim of not so funny jokes saying, “People keep coming up to me and saying, ‘Hey, wouldn’t it be funny if you got anthrax?’ I’m like, ‘Oh, that’d be hilarious.'”

On Monday, his girfriend went to pick up a prescription for Cipro, an antibiotic used to treat anthrax. Ian insists, “I will not die an ironic death.”
