C.B. Liddelll of The Asahi Shimbun spoke with Rob Halford about his decision to leave Judas Priest and come out of the closet. Halford said, “Being gay doesn’t really matter anywhere in the world except in America. That’s because America is so conservative and puritanical.” Halford explained his move to stay silent was more to help his bandmates fearing the admission would kill record sales, “I totally protected the band. It was all about the band and not about me.”
