Rancid Does What They Want

guitarist and co-vocalist Lars Frederiksen acknowledged to Zero magazine that the band’s five-year press lock-out may have contributed to a slight career slump but quickly noted how it
was all their decision. “After we put out ‘Life Won’t Wait’ we decided we weren’t
going to talk to the press anymore,” he explained. “We wanted to take a step back and say ‘fu** it all.’ It was kind of like a ‘fu** you, we’re going to do what we want; we are
going to be here forever.’ That’s the thing about Rancid, no one can tell us what to do–record labels, managers, whomever. So if we want to do something, we’re going to do it. That’s been the spirit of Rancid for 12 years. For all our experience we just know that taking care of us is number one. We don’t give a fu** what anyone else says or thinks, the most important people are the four of us.”
