Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl toured with the Queens of the Stone Age last year before returning to his duties in fronting the Foos. But according to Oliveri, it was more than a flirtation with membership in QOTSA. “The thing that was funny about Dave was he was telling us, ‘Hey man, Foo Fighters is over. I’m in this band with you guys,’ ” bassist Nick Oliveri tells Cincinnati CityBeat. “So of course, being a bass player who loves playing with a drummer who’s like Dave, I’m hearing this, and it’s like candy to my ears. ‘Yeah, man, it’s great. Dave Grohl is in our band’.” But Oliveri says Grohl was under heavy pressure to return to the Foo Fighters. For his part, Grohl says, while he was thoroughly energized by playing with the Queens, he never intended to join the band full time.
