New Trends In Rock

Ken Barnes of USA Today took part in an online chat with readers earlier today and was asked about Franz Ferdinand, , and , bands who are making a buzz with danceable rock, and whether he felt more bands would follow the trend. “Could be–it’s encouraging to see this trend follow the garage-rock-inspired White Stripes revival, and the net result is that modern rock finally seems to be carving out an identity of its own again after about five years of being virtually indistinguishable from active rock formats,” Barnes responded. “In other words, there’s a viable alternative rock format again. So, sure, I expect more acts to follow this path. The Scissor Sisters are an extreme, more pop-oriented example, and there will be a new crop of British bands coming our way shortly, I’m sure.”
