Maximo Park’s Well Thought-Out Sound Drives Success

Maximo Park’s Paul Smith puts their success down to a well thought-out sound that straddles escalating angular guitar riffs with simple pop hooks. “There’s nothing we do now that’s too different from what we were doing in the beginning because we had quite set ideas,” Smith tells Australia’s Time Off magazine. “We did want to write pop songs and we didn’t want to write anything derivative – we wanted it to something fresh – and that’s a challenge. It’s not like you go, ‘Oh, we’re different than other bands’ and it comes to you like that; you have to work on it.”
