Matt Toka spoke with The Augusta Chronicle about growing up around his parents’ abuse and addiction, the autobiographical nature of his new album ‘Straight to Hell’, and how he’s back on speaking terms with his family despite the troubled history.

“I get along with my family now,” the former Cherry Monroe frontman said. “My mom was in prison and I didn’t talk to her for three years, and my dad thought I was crazy to do music. But we talk frequently now.”
