Matchbook Romance’s E-mail Record Deal

TheBizMagazine.com caught up with singer/guitarist Andy Jordan who explained how the group were discovered by Epitaph Records. “It was weird. It’s all of like a fairy tale this whole thing,” Jordan said. “I was going to check my email and I had an email from Brett, the owner of Epitaph. He basically said straight up, ‘I like your band and I’d like to talk to you guys about it’ and stuff like that… I thought it was a joke so I didn’t respond to it. I kind of stared at it for a half hour wondering if it was real. And I replied and gave him my cellphone. I told him if it was a joke that was really fu**ed up, but if not, call my cell phone we’d be glad to talk to him. For days I was asking the band if they were playing jokes on me. ‘Cause so many we knew had the same thing. Somebody in the band did it to them and they’d freak out and call everybody and they’d laugh at thim. So, I didn’t want anyone to get the best of me, so I didn’t tell them what it was. I just asked if they were playing a joke and they got so mad at me. So, finally, a few days later I brought my laptop to band practice and asked them one last time. They said no and I finally showed it to them and everyone freaked out. About a week later, not even, a few days later Brett called me from Amsterdam. He talked to us so that was really cool.”
