Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett spoke with Australia’s Beat magazine and says the challenges the band faced the past few years now seems nothing more than a rite of passage. “When I look back at this time last year we had not yet even played a note since James had come back from rehab,” Hammett said. “Compared to now we have a kick ass album, a kick ass tour, we’re playing our hometown tonight and we have a great band and a new bass player that we love who is just an incredible human being. It couldn’t be more the polar opposite of what we were a year ago and I’m just so thankful it’s gone this way. I feel a rebirth of the band.”
