Michael Deeds of The Idaho Statesman caught up with Kid Rock for a Q&A and asked him what’s been the best part about transforming from rapper to rocker. “To be honest, I always liked all the music. So it’s just natural that it would evolve there,” he said. “I love hip-hop. I haven’t really been into it lately, but that’s the reason why I did ‘Only God Knows Why’ and songs like ‘Cowboy’ and sh** like that on my first record. Because I didn’t want to get pigeonholed and caught up in this whole rap-rock phase. Which I knew was a big phase. I knew I was really good at it, too. So I said, ‘Fu**, let me get on.’ And from there, I just kept branching out and trying to be a little more musical and put some more good blues-based American rock ‘n’ roll back into the system, that I think has been missing for a long time.”
