BBC Radio 1 host Maryanne Hobbs spoke with Kerrang! Editor Phil Alexander who gave his thoughts on the death of Alice in Chains frontman Layne Staley. Alexander said, “It’s an absolutely heartbreaking story. I am a big fan of that band and of that man in question, he was a lovely individual. It comes at a time when so many bands have taken what Alice in Chains have done and gone on to do things with their template. It’s just a shame that the original band aren’t around to prove what made them so great in the first place. It’s a tragic loss for the rock world.” Phil also talked about Corey Taylor of Slipknot’s track ‘Bother’ – and played the track as well. Audio at bbc.co.uk/radio1 has since been removed.
