Greg Kot of the Chicago Tribune reviewed the Mars Volta gig Thursday (July 24) at Metro. Kot says, “At a time when formulas constrict too much of rock, Mars Volta blows down boundaries. If their ambitions occasionally got the best of them — who ordered that bass solo, anyway? — the quintet more than compensated with their ferocious stage presence and their ability to dance frantically on the high wire of failure.” Chicagotribune.com has since removed the article.
