Hyped-Up Vines Just Wither In Boston

Brett Milano of the Boston Herald reviewed the Vines show at the Middle East on Wednesday night and was less than impressed with the buzz band. “ aren’t a terrible band, but they’re nowhere close to living up to their hype,” Milano said. “Thanks to the punkish singles ‘Highly Evolved’ and ‘Outtatheway,’ they’re often lumped into a garage-rock movement with the Hives, Strokes and White Stripes. But unlike those bands, the Vines also write a lot of ballads, which sound like a play for Coldplay’s audience. Throw in Nicholls’ obvious Kurt Cobain fixation, and you’ve got a band that hasn’t found its direction yet.” Bostonherald.com has since removed the article.
