Hetfield Was Scared To Return To Metallica Post-Rehab
Metallica frontman James Hetfield opened up about his alcohol rehab and his hesitation returning to his bandmates afterwards. He tells Joel Selvin of the San Francisco Chronicle, “I came out and I was scared to go back into that environment. All that enabling, all the temptations. I had to introduce myself to the band and tell them what I needed to survive. And they listened.” Bandmate Kirk Hammett said, “Basically we were reconnecting with James. He’d been away a long time, and we weren’t sure what post-rehab James would be like. When we got back together, we didn’t play music. We sat down and talked about what Metallica meant.” Read more.
