When Amy Lee and Ben Moody of Evanescence did a potty-mouthed interview for the April 18th issue of Entertainment Weekly that resulted in Wind-up removing their album from Christian record store, some wondered if it was really just a shrewd marketing move. “I don’t think it was a scam,” said Geoff Mayfield, director of charts for Billboard magazine. “If I am an artist, I’d want to be in as many storefronts as possible. I’ve been at Billboard for nearly 12 years, and this is only the second time an artist has said, ‘I don’t want to be on that chart’.” Mayfield tells the Boston Herald that Christian outlets account for only 2-3 percent of the band’s total sales. Bostonherald.com has since removed the article.
