Steve Morse of the Boston Globe spoke with Amy Lee of the tricky to pronounce band Evanescence. “We’ve been called some crazy things, like Effervescent and Evan’s Essence, ” admitted Lee. “We just wanted a band name that was unusual. So we picked up a dictionary and liked the sound of ‘evanescence’. It seemed mysterious, which is the way we think of our music.” The word, according to Webster’s, means “a gradual disappearance,” completely opposite of what the group’s been doing lately.
