Just after sharing the stage with U2 at Live 8, Elton John is furious with Bono after the singer said no to letting Sir Elton use their hit ‘New Year’s Day’ on a charity CD he’s putting together for his AIDS foundation. “Elton is livid. He can’t believe U2 refused to give permission to use New Year’s Day. He thinks it’s really bad form,” a source tells The Sunday Mirror. “Bono was one of the main protagonists behind Live 8 and the Make Poverty History campaign which Elton was happy to do because it was such a brilliant cause. So you can imagine he was amazed – and a little let down, to say the least – when U2 wouldn’t allow the song to be used.”
