Dimebag’s Ex Rita Haney Blames Phil Anselmo For His Murder

In an interview with Guitar World magazine, slain guitarist Darrell Abbott’s girlfriend of 20 years, Rita Haney, is pointing fingers at Panetera singer Phil Anselmo for causing Dimebag to be murdered on stage on December 8, 2004 in Columbus, Ohio by deranged gunman Nathan Gale. “If Phil Anselmo hadn’t quit Pantera, Darrell wouldn’t have been playing in that sh**hole where that guy could get to him,” Haney fumed in the mag’s March 2008 issue, on sale January 15th.

She also didn’t have kind words for the lead singer of the band Dimebag was playing with that night, Damageplan. “I remember in his final days, Darrell was calling me a lot and he told me that he didn’t know what to do about [vocalist] Pat Lachman,” Haney explained. “Pat said that he didn’t want to sing any Pantera songs, but he knew what he was getting into when he joined the band. It got to the point where Darrell blew up completely. He said, ‘Look, if I want a dickhead for a singer I’ll call up Phil Anselmo! I can at least make money with that motherfu**er.'” The full story at guitarworld.com has since been archived.

As much as I love Pantera to this DAY! Do not blame one man for the death of the one you loved. Blame the gunman who took his life and the other he killed that cold December night in 2004.

Phil had an addiction, he was NOT himself. He’s cleaned up his life, his act and his musicianship.

I don’t know why Rex went to DOWN, but there had to be a reason for it.
Rex even said “It was a lot of he said, she said bullsh** and I stayed out of it.”

Hell, since I got into music, in my 20 years of doing this, with 1/1000th of the success Pantera has, until I formed Cadillac Rock Box with my brother in arms, Matt. Who is my Dime! We ended CRB because of internal crap, it wasn’t just me, it was all of us. We got tired of each other. Most of it I will admit was me. But you know what Rita? We are still playing music together, shows to 100s of people a night, with our CRB Alum Greg.

That’s how it goes hon, people come and go, get bent at each other. Please forgive Phil. Vinnie, I’m begging you bro, please forgive Phil, hell and Rex to that matter.

You guys were bros for over 15 years man!

I’ve lost brothers Vin and Rita. I’ve had falling outs with people. Some ended up as friendships again and yes, some people had to fall to the wayside. But that’s life.

    That’s how it rolls.

Nathan Gale, a demented young man, who calculated this murder killed Dime, not Phil.

Let the past be, Dime would have wanted it that way.
Remember what it said in the letter to Phil from Dime “No longer will you trample through my peaceful mind.”?

He made his peace with it. And I would guarantee, like when Matt called me one night and said “Hey bro, I know it’s been a while, but let’s start over with something completely new, You, Greg, and I, we’ll find a cool cat to bring in on bass, go up to Joey Z’s (Life of Agony Guitarist) studio, record a new record and play shows man. All I want to do is play music again. I gotta be honest with you bro, I don’t want to play music with anyone other than you man.”

Now…do you think that Vin, Dime, Rex, and Phil could sit down and have that same conversation? Sure.

If LOA can break up for seven years and then get back together, cut a record, and go play to 110K a show in Europe (Like they did this past summer of ’09), I’m sure those four could have.

Please forgive hon. That hate will eat you up inside.

    Seven Day Silence – 2009-????

PS-See what our name was? Cadillac Rock Box – we took that name from the Anthrax album “We’ve Come for You All”. Track 10. “Yo G Money…this is the sweet child here ringing you from the f’g Cadillac Rock Box here…”

    God bless darlin…

If you want to hear our old band – go to:

Email me if you like Vin….
We have NO problem putting that band back together, but Seven Day Silence is just as bad a&&. – J –

Very nice advice. It is always a good thing to forgive and focus on the positive things in life for everyone’s mental well being. BUT shamelessly plugging your failing music career under the cover of making yourself appear as an individual that cares is unacceptable and unforgivable. If you have or had something viable to say to Rita for her comfort or peace of mind you should have done so in a private email or letter. This makes you look like a salesman, I hope that was not your intent.
