Darkness Win The Sun’s Mercury Award
The Sun awarded The Darkness with the Freddie Mercury Music Prize at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel on Tuesday evening, a play on the Mercury Music Prize that the group lost out to Dizzee Rascal. “It’s a real honor to be the first recipients of this great piece of silverware,” frontman Justin Hawkins said. “In a world that’s disappeared up it’s own arse, it’s nice to be given some recognition just for being a great rock ‘n’ roll band. We didn’t want to win the Mercury award anyway. It’s not necessarily a good thing for a band’s career, is it? Anyway, the Freddie Mercury Award is a much bigger deal. Thank you, Bizarre.” The full story at thesun.co.uk has since been archived.
