Damon Albarn Condemns Military Action Against Afghanistan

Upon winning the Best Dance Act award at the 2001 MTV Europe Awards in Frankfurt on Thursday, Gorillaz & Blur singer Damon Albarn lashed out at military actions in Afghanistan saying, “Fu** the music, see this symbol here, this is the symbol for the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. Bombing one of the poorest countries in the world is wrong. It’s wrong so you’ve got a voice and you’ve got to do what you can about it.”

After the shocking comments from the artist, awards show host Ali G joked about the award’s ‘true’ meaning saying, “That ain’t the sign for Nuclear Disarmament, that’s the sign for Mercedez Benz innit? I know I has nicked millions.”
