‘Stupid Girl’, the first single from Cold’s sophomore set, ‘Year of the Spider’, gives the group an entree to the modern-rock audience thanks to a guest appearance by Weezer leader Rivers Cuomo. Guitarist Kelley Hayes tells Gary Graff of the Cleveland Plain Dealer the connection for the collaboration was made quickly. “When we wrote that, it was kind of funny; we all went, ‘Dude, that sounds like a Weezer song,’ ” Hayes says. “We were hanging out with Rivers one night and said ‘Dude, you’ve got to come and do something on this song. It’s perfect for you. He ended up coming out and singing the verses, [Cold vocalist] Scooter did the choruses, and they finished it together. It’s awesome.” Cleveland.com has since removed the article.
