Black Rebel Motorcycle Club singer and guitarist Peter Hayes tells Australia’s Time Off magazine that the band’s third album ‘Howl’ has a less claustrophobic sound than past BRMC albums. It also found the band experimenting wholeheartedly in the studio. “[We wanted to] randomly have fun in the kind of style of The Beach Boys, The Stones or The Beatles – just kind of going out there, playing instruments you don’t usually play,” Hayes explained. “We did all the choir parts ourselves – all the harmonies and the timpani, keyboards and things. I guess it was kind of an LSD trip – just kind of experimenting and making music and having fun doing it like those bands were. It was like, ‘Where is that these days?’. You don’t necessarily hear that aspect of music coming out – as far as experimenting with different sounds and things – in the mainstream.”
