While Billy Corgan has always had a voice that people either love or hate, he tells Jim DeRogatis of the Chicago Sun-Times that he never considered not singing in Zwan. Nor did he ever seriously contemplate a solo career. “That was a funny thing because there was a lot of stuff written toward the end, and it got repeated as if it had come out of my mouth, but it was never the idea to go solo,” he said. “My basic idea was to form more of a collective, something that could be flexible but not get into the egoism of ‘I don’t want to do that.’ Rather, I think this whole thing is set the right way (to assure everyone’s happiness) because I think the happiness of the individual members is critical to making free, happy, exciting music.”
