With Audioslave, Tom Morello has created what he calls a “fire wall” between the politics and the music, leaving the former to the activist group Axis of Justice, which he runs with System of a Down’s Serj Tankian. “We’ve gotten more real-life grassroots political organizing done in the last year than we did in 10 years of Rage Against the Machine,” he tells Greg Kot of the Chicago Tribune. “I love political content in music — when it’s great music. Rage developed along a very natural path where the two came together. Audioslave went along a different path, where it’s broader musically, allowing us to explore things we never were able to do in the past.”
