The family of Alice In Chains lead singer Layne Staley confirmed in a statement early Saturday morning that the singer was found dead in his home on Friday in Seattle’s University District. Police were asked to check on him after family members had not heard from him. Officers found him dead in his residence. The cause is ‘unknown’ right now and an autopsy is scheduled for Saturday. Staley was born in Kirkland in 1967. Staley had several battles with substance abuse. He was addicted to heroin and tried to kick the habit at least twice in his career. Staley was just 34 years old.
