The progression of A.F.I. stylistically has meant a change in their audience. While still attracting it’s fair share of psyched up punk kids, the more atmospheric AFI has brought a more diverse crowd. “The audience is almost 50/50 between girls and guys,” bassist Hunter tells Australia’s Beat magazine. “We don’t want our shows to have too many guys as it turns into a testosterone fest and too many girls sometimes looks and feels like a teeny bopper fest. I think we have a great mix of fans, and we are so lucky because so many of them are so loyal. It’s so flattering when you travel overseas and you meet people with your band tattooed on them. Whether it’s kids who are into punk or hardcore of goth.”
