Stereophonics Discuss The Death Of Stuart Cable

Kelly Jones and Richard Jones of Stereophonics talked to Ben Jones backstage at the V Festival 2010 over the weekend. The pair talked about how their summer tour has been so far, touring with Pearl Jam, and revealed that there will be a big Stereophonics announcement very soon. During the interview, the Welsh rock band also revealed that they’ve spent a lot more time on the tourbus recently, learning great things about each other along the way. Rich says he’s started shooting rabbits and Kelly has entered the 21st century by getting an iPhone.

As for how they’ve dealt with the death of Stuart Cable and their memories of their former drummer, Kelly said, “Well, it never goes away really. We walk on stage and Stuart’s always with us and always has been. We’ve talked quite a lot for the last 5-6 years, so anyway we were talking right up to the point when he passed and we were gonna meet that weekend. I know we’ve kept in touch with his family a lot, and his girlfriend, and I think it’s helped them speaking to us, because we obviously were as close to him as they are really. It’s been strange looking out in the gigs and sometimes people having ‘RIP Stuart’ and stuff like that. That was a bit weird to get used to at first, but I think it hit all of us about 2 to 3 weeks after actually, when we were in the middle of it all, you’re just dealing with it, but when you go back out on the road and you’re playing those songs again. Even last week, when someone was playing ‘When You Go You Gotta Come Back’ and just listening to him playing drums it kind of comes back again. I don’t think it’ll ever go either.”

Chris Ross And Myles Heskett Leave Wolfmother

Wolfmother posted the following message on their blog at MySpace on Thursday (August 7):

Grammy Award winning rock band Wolfmother has announced the resignation of bass/keyboard player Chris Ross and drummer Myles Heskett effective immediately.

Singer/guitarist Andrew Stockdale now plans to find other musicians over coming months and to then begin making a new Wolfmother album.

Wolfmother toured the world virtually non-stop through 2006 and early 2007 on the back of their acclaimed self titled debut album. Longstanding frictions within the group then lead them to take an extended break during the second half of 2007 to consider their future.

In early 2008 they regrouped and worked on new material. Initially encouraged by those sessions, they committed to a handful of live shows to ‘road test’ the new songs and to try to find a way forward.

Those dates concluded with a headlining slot last Sunday at the Splendour In The Grass Festival in Australia’s Byron Bay where rumours circulated about possible lineup changes.

Following that show Chris Ross decided to announce that he was leaving the band due to irreconcilable personal and musical differences. Myles Heskett has also decided to leave the band rather than continuing as part of a changed lineup. The pair has been working together on songs for some time and they plan to focus their energies on that new project in the future.

Eddie Vedder Relates To Chris McCandless

While writing music for ‘Dead Man Walking’, Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder tells Time Off magazine he found ample inspiration in the subject of the flick, Chris McCandless. “It wasn’t hard for me to understand the kid,” Vedder admitted of the young man just out of college, who ditched all his friendships and material possessions in the mid-90s and went walkabout all across America. “I still feel so connected and have such strong memories of being at that age where you see the bullsh** in the world and want to know how you can address it, how can you maintain some idealism, and how to not become the same authority figures that you’re growing up around. This was an opportunity to kind of revisit that stuff. I think it takes real guts to do what Chris did, and even if there was recklessness involved, it’s the kind of recklessness we miss later when we’re settled in and wonder what we could have done with our lives.” The article at timeoff.com.au has since been removed.

Eddie Vedder Gets Recklessness Out Of His System

Fatherhood has forced Eddie Vedder to question his attitude about life, the Pearl Jam singer said at Tuesday’s ‘Into the Wild’ press conference in West Hollywood. “I don’t know what I’m going to say when she sees pictures of me hanging 30 feet off a rafter, over a crowd,” Vedder explained. “At a certain point, you realize you have a responsibility more behind yourself and your need for adrenaline. I’m glad I did things in my 20s that were more reckless.” Check out more details from People.
