Charlie Benante Discusses Anthrax Tribute To Ronnie James Dio
Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante spoke to NME about the Sonisphere Big 4 show in Warsaw, Poland and how the event came about thanks to an idea from Lars Ulrich when Metallica was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He also mentioned the band’s tribute to the late Ronnie James Dio. “We have a thing that we’re gonna do as a tribute to Ronnie Dio,” Charlie explained. “That we’re gonna incorporate in our show, because that was something that kind of hit us all a bit hard because Dio is one of our… we looked up to him not only as a singer, but as a human being. Bloody Good Horror recently caught up with Sully Erna for a Q&A, asking the Godsmack frontman about the story behind ‘Cryin’ Like a Bitch’, the first single off their new album ‘The Oracle’. “I’m a fan of Motley Crue, always have been,” Erna said of the Cruefest inspired track reportedly about Nikki Sixx. “Still great friends with Tommy Lee. And Mick [Mars] and Vince [Neil] were also very very cool guys to all of us. That’s all everyone, right?? Ahem!! So, anyway…. We’ve been blessed with having the opportunities to open for some of our childhood heroes, Ozzy [Osbourne], Black Sabbath, Metallica, etc. So, in our eyes, there’s only one band left on this planet that we would consider opening for.
